The Chosyukaku is an elegant two-story house. The Third Shogun, Iemitsu tokugawa, when visiting Kyoto in 1623,
order tera ceremony master Shogen Sakuma to build the building in the compound of the Nijojo Castle, perhaps as
one of the garden buildings. It was moved here in 1922. In fall, beautiful scarlet maple leaves may be seen from the
window, giving the house the name of Choshujajy "fall-enjoynig house." The Chosyukaku with a structure like this still in existence. Many free and unusual designs are found in this building.
